Psalm 119

1  Blessed are those whose way is pure, ♦︎
who walk in the law of the Lord.
2  Blessed are those who keep his testimonies ♦︎
and seek him with their whole heart,
3  Those who do no wickedness, ♦︎
   but walk in his ways.
4  You, O Lord, have charged ♦︎
that we should diligently keep your commandments.
5  O that my ways were made so direct ♦︎
that I might keep your statutes.
6  Then should I not be put to shame, ♦︎
because I have regard for all your commandments.
7  I will thank you with an unfeigned heart, ♦︎
when I have learned your righteous judgements.
8  I will keep your statutes; ♦︎
   O forsake me not utterly.

Genesis 26: 1-5

Isaac and Abimelech

26Now there was a famine in the land, besides the former famine that had occurred in the days of Abraham. And Isaac went to Gerar, to King Abimelech of the Philistines. 2The Lord appeared to Isaac* and said, ‘Do not go down to Egypt; settle in the land that I shall show you. 3Reside in this land as an alien, and I will be with you, and will bless you; for to you and to your descendants I will give all these lands, and I will fulfil the oath that I swore to your father Abraham. 4I will make your offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven, and will give to your offspring all these lands; and all the nations of the earth shall gain blessing for themselves through your offspring, 5because Abraham obeyed my voice and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws.’

James 1: 12-16

Trial and Temptation

12 Blessed is anyone who endures temptation. Such a one has stood the test and will receive the crown of life that the Lord* has promised to those who love him. 13No one, when tempted, should say, ‘I am being tempted by God’; for God cannot be tempted by evil and he himself tempts no one. 14But one is tempted by one’s own desire, being lured and enticed by it; 15then, when that desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin, and that sin, when it is fully grown, gives birth to death. 16Do not be deceived, my beloved.*
